I just wrote this article on how to manage cell phone use in classrooms. What I didn't talk about was the decrease in drama DURING instructional time (and this includes bullying) when we teach scree-free. As we know, what happens online does get brought into our classrooms. Limiting cell use during instructional time gives our students some time off from conflict: a pause, a breath, a cooling-off moment. Don't our students deserve at least that?
